The Birth of a Dream. Well two actually !
When Zane Grier had a dream he would dream big. After years of fulfilling other dreams from Surf Culture in the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia to Snowboard Instructing in the snow capped mountains of Colorado USA. Zane put all his time and resources into creating something new "Driftlab". The fusion of "City Life" to the "Coastal Lifestyle" we all dream about.
'A locally owned boutique which offers a superb selection of unique urban apparel and accessories for the selective soul. Located in the heart of beautiful Byron Bay" That was the vision from Driftlab's Inception.
That fusion put two words together "Drift" representing the Driftwood or Coastal Lifestyle we find sitting on the beautiful Australian beach's and "Lab" something more technical and city slick savvy far removed from the North Coast lifestyle.
The birth of Driftlab and the birth of Zane & Samara's second child just in time for Bluesfest 2010 that dream became a reality. So while Crowded House brought the Weather, Jack Johnson brought his Aloha Style, Jeff Beck Wailed in the Tyagarah Tea Tree's and Fat Freddy's Drop found that Aotearoan groove. Oh yeah ! and not to forget the Gypsy Kings well what can I say Bamboleo bambolea Porque mi vida yo la prefiero vivir así. I have no idea what it says but who doesn't blast out a bit of Bamboleo.
Driftlab held its own amongst that list of legends and became the most exciting, freshest and unique store on the North Coast that year. The vibe in-store was as electric as Krafty Kuts hitting his Funky Break-beat High's.
The carefully curated selection of Brands from conception was just so ahead of the pack. Carhartt, Superdry, Adidas, Onitsuka Tiger, G-Star, Neuw, Sosume, Clae, Raen, Lower, Alternative, Goddess of Babylon,The Critical Slide Society and the list went on and on. The excitement of having uniqueness in a town thick with surf logo's was fresh and zesty.
The most common question from customers was "Where are your stores in Melbourne and Sydney" ? The answer was nowhere just "Byron Bay" and a few years later the beautiful local hinterland village of "Newrybar".
This was the start of a legacy. It was the "Realisation" of a dream and the "Passion" that was behind it that evolved from all those involved, The "Creators", the "Staff" and most importantly the "Customers" who graced those big open doors. Made it a special place from day one to this day 10 Years later.
Everyone contributed their part to make it something beyond special. Ten Years in what a ride rocking and ready for the next Decade.
Unfortunately the time for celebration is not now. Those doors are closed at this moment. Now is the time for everyone to stay safe and have each other backs. When you look around the "Byron Bay" beaches and "Hinterland" the beauty and natural awesomeness is still there. It makes your warm and glowing when you see it. It makes you calm and realise we will get through these challenging times. Its just waiting for when you can visit again and soak it up in all its "Splendour".
The Team at Driftlab are working around the clock to keep the "Dream Alive". To be there for our "Amazing Customers" Online with our big open doors in the Online World and in the hopefully near future when our world is ready to get back to some form of normality. We will open the stores and be ready to celebrate.
Thank you to all who have chosen to be a part of the "Driftlab Family" we are eternally grateful. And thank you Zane for having that coastal dream and turning it into a reality.
"Happy 10th Birthday Driftlab"
